You are bidding on an old Digby pipe. Digby's were made by GBD and a 1976 catalogue advertised them as made "By the Makers of the Famous GBD." These "second line" pipes were made from briar with too many defects to qualify for the GBD inscription. The stem is in pretty nice shape. It had little or no oxidation, and I just cleaned it and brightened it up with obsidian oil. I don't know if the stem is original, but it has no inscription. The bowl had heavy tar which I removed with cleaning and slight wet sanding. I cleaned the stummel with Murphy's and then put some Paragon wax on and wiped it off by hand. The briar had a couple of small pricks, and I noted some other slight defects; but, overall, this looks like nice wood to me with some beautiful grain pattern. See the photographs for a good look at the details. This pipe is from the estate of David Windsor/Bufflehead Pipe & Tobacco (Kansas City).
