RARE c1920’s-40’s LORD KENYON
By Comoy’s, MADE IN ENGLAND
34 Billiard, Gorgeous, NEAR MINT
This pipe is an early brand made by Comoy’s called LORD KENYON. In the history of Great Britain, back in 1788, the title Lord Kenyon was given to Baron Kenyon. The title has passed on in succession through to the seventh Baron, who received the title in 2019. I’m not sure where this pipe would be graded, but it’s certainly a beautifully grained example, well made.
The dating is determined by the Country of Manufacture stamp “MADE IN ENDLAND” as this one has MADE curved on top, with IN in the center of circular stamp, and ENGLAND curved on the bottom. That stamp was only used for a short period by Comoy’s. Some times in a linear stamp as well, and I think they are from the same time period.
According to Derek Green
this indicates a 1920’s to 1930's dating for a Comoy’s or sub-brand pipe.
From a Derek Green article about Dating Comoy’s on Pipedia:
Made in England. This is stamped in a circle with “Made” at the top, “in” in the middle, and “England” forming the bottom of the circle... I have seen this stamp on a Cecil dated as early as 1910 and on an Old Bruyere of 1921 and then only on pipes from the 1930s.
However, in an article by GL Pease:
The third period, approximately 1938 through the early to mid-forties or so, has the same "COMOY'S" stamp and grade, with the country of origin changing to the circular "MADE IN ENGLAND," the word "IN" in the center of the circle formed by the words "MADE" and "ENGLAND."
The shape is 34, a mid-size billiard with a flared stem. The bowl on this pipe shows off some gorgeous flame cross-grain on both sides of the bowl, rich color and good contrast, beautiful looking. The inside of the bowl is well-seasoned – should be a fine smoker! The stem is original with the (K) logo stamped on the side, made of good quality vulcanite, and has one tiny smoothed tooth impression. Weighs about 1.2 ounces, draw hole bottom center. Been freshly polished and is ready to smoke!

Additional cleaning may be desired on some pipes, as I focus on the exterior reconditioning and reaming, and leave the shank interior to the new owner, pipe stand not included with any pipe.
