Stout Large Billiard 143, Still Mint!
Here is an early and still unsmoked pipe from a brand I rarely ever see, marked SKIKDA. The name SKIKDA is likely from the name of the city from which it came: Skikda is a city in northeastern Algeria and a port on the Mediterranean. It is the capital of Skikda Province and Skikda District. Below I show a composite photo of early town of Skikda, along with a worker harvesting a briar root ball. Algerian briar is renowned as the BEST SMOKING briar in the world for its smoking quality, so it’s not a surprise this company produced pipes “in country’. I purchased a small collection, and this is the only one that was unsmoked. It’s a large billiard which showing off some super pretty grain with rich natural color. The bowl is well made and the draw hole is bottom center, and it draws easy. The stem is original and has a nice cut, has no tooth marks and no issues. The stem has a logo on top, looks like an “S” with wings to the sides, and an upturned crescent moon on top. Weighs in at 1.65 ounces. It's freshly polished and ready to smoke.
